Apple is working on its AI tools and Siri but is it worried about the future of iPhones?
Apple has made billions by selling iPhones for more than a decade in the market but the company is not sure about its future with the rise of AI having a big impact on its use. Apple’s senior executive Eddy Cue made some strong predictions during the Google Search antitrust case in the US.
He was quoted saying, “you may not need an iPhone 10 years from now," and he feels that the iPhones will be obsolete because of AI and how it advances in the next few years. Apple has often avoided making grand statements like these in public but Cue is a senior figure at the company and he seems to be talking on behalf of the tech giant during the trial.
AI To Kill iPhones?
Apple is yet to solve the AI puzzle and make Siri work like it was supposed to but the company is also invested in making AI work in the next few years. We have already seen signs of its development albeit at a slow pace, but the fact that Apple fears the evolution of AI into such a big force also tells us a different side to its story.
He talks about how Apple killed the iPod with the launch of the iPhones many years back, and he could see history repeating itself as AI looks to become the forefront of the next few decades. Can the company think about killing its golden goose to counter the rise of AI, only if its own technology evolves, matures and becomes as good as it wants.
Until then, we can see the iPhones ruling the market and helping Apple earn big money. It also sees markets like India growing in the next few years and becoming a core part of its growth, as the main markets have become subdued with demand now saturating with every iteration of the iPhones.
Having said that, we are entirely sure if Cue is trying to portray Apple as a small part of the industry with these comments, and hoping to avoid further scrutiny from the regulators over its businesses.
