Google is bringing its own AI-powered spam detection tool that looks to compete with services like Truecaller in the market. Spam calls and messages have become a nuisance across the globe, and in countries like India. The company is ready to deploy its AI system to do the heavy lifting and help people avoid falling into the trap.

Google is also aware of the risks posed by some Android apps and it will also monitor their activities on your device to ensure they don’t steal personal data.

Google Spam And Dangerous App Alert Tools: How It Works

The spam detection works through Pixel phones on the Phone app that comes pre-installed for the users. Google basically uses its AI tech to detect possible threats from these calls and alerts the user with a label that says, “Likely scam – Suspicious activity detected for this call." The person has the option to end the call or mark it with ‘not a spam’ toggle.

The difference in Google’s approach to detect spam calls is based on the on-device machine learning that can analyse the call in real-time and determine its nature based on conversation tone and pattern. Google assures that no calls are recorded or stored on its servers, and the option for spam alert is turned off by default.

Similarly, you have another helpful tool which detects any threats posed by malicious apps. The company is once again using AI to track its behaviour and see if it is trying to interact with apps it doesn’t need to. If Google detects any unusual activity, it will alert the user about its concerns with the app and ask you to delete it right away.

Google is offering these tools to Pixel users in the US and they need to sign up for the Google beta program to avail its benefits. You need to have the Pixel 6 or higher model to take advantage of these tools.
