The never-ending list of security issues in 2026 has another victim and this time it is Google’s popular Chrome web browser. The latest Chrome security warning in January 2026 has been posted by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) with a medium severity ranking, which might not sound very dangerous but any alert like this should be taken seriously.

The browser is making changes for the AI demand with Gemini which means a single issue could become catastrophic for your data that resides on Chrome. The security agency explains the latest Chrome risk is related to a security bypass exploit.

Chrome Security Issue: What CERT-In Has Said

The security body has shared the details about the new Chrome issue in its bulletin. “Security Restriction Bypass vulnerability exists in Google Chrome due to Insufficient policy enforcement in WebView tag. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a remote attacker to bypass security restrictions on the targeted system."

Bypassing the security of your system allows the hackers to access all the data and other important details that you would want to secure from bad actors. If the vulnerability is exploited, Chrome can become a potent tool for both individuals as well as the organisations that depend on the browser for their daily work and other tasks.

Chrome Security Issue: Who Is At Risk?

Chrome users on Windows, MacOS and Linux are being warned about the risks and these versions have been mentioned by the security body which you need to take not of:

Google Chrome prior to 143.0.7499.192 (Linux)Google Chrome prior to 143.0.7499.192/.193 (Mac)Google Chrome prior to 143.0.7499.192/.193 (Windows)

If you Chrome on your system and their version is one before these, we advise you to update the browser immediately. Google has also shared the details as well as the new patch updates for the affected versions. Chrome users must download the latest available software update for Google Chrome on Windows, macOS and Linux. You can do this by heading over to the three-dot menu on Chrome – Settings – About – Update Chrome.
