Chrome users are getting new features and the AI additions could make it even more powerful as a web browser.

Chrome is close to becoming an AI browser
Chrome could be the next destination for AI mode from Google Search and tests have already seem to have started in the developer builds. The new AI version of search needs you to go to the Search page but integrating it within Chrome could help you use AI in the browser itself. The new option spotted in the Chrome Canary build shows what Google wants to do with AI mode and how it can become more useful by working in Chrome rather than Search.
The purpose of AI mode is to help you with curated content that has been sourced through different websites and summarised for the user on the main page itself. Chrome getting this ability could be as pivotal as the browser gaining agentic AI powers.
AI Mode In Chrome: What To Expect
Having AI mode working in Chrome means you can do all the AI-centric tasks, which includes asking queries, uploading PDF or images to analyse and summarise the content in the browser itself.
These AI features are still in development which explains its tests in the Canary Build which will later move into the beta phase before the full release for everyone. The details from Windows Report shares a new way for AI mode to work without being redirected to the Search page.
More importantly, the source was able to generate images using the Nano Banana AI tool, within Chrome, which is another big deal. Chrome is the most popular browser and bringing AI mode there feels like a no brainer for the company and we could see it happen soon.
For now, Google seems to have taken the lead over OpenAI with its aggressive Gemini push, and we could see more happen in the near future.
The company is also offering its affordable AI Plus plan in India from this week priced at Rs 399 per month like ChatGPT Go. However, there is a limited period offer wherein you get this plan priced at Rs 199 for the first six months of you signing up.
