Veo 3 lets you generate 8-second video using prompts and photos
Google unleashed Veo 3 AI model at the I/O 2025 in May which is now available in over 150 countries, including India. The new AI model lets you create videos using text prompts and you can even add audio sync for the visuals. But did you know that Google is making it capable of generating 8-second videos out of your photos?
“You can create short videos in minutes in Gemini Apps. Simply describe what you have in mind and watch your ideas come to life in motion – whether you’re creating for fun, sharing with friends, or visualizing a concept," Google’s Gemini page points out.
Yes, the new feature is part of the Veo 3 availability and it is supported if you have bought the Gemini AI Pro or Ultra plans in any of the eligible regions.
Google’s Photo To AI Video: How It Works
To use the new feature on Gemini AI, you need a personal account and subscription to Gemini AI Pro or Ultra plans. People below 18 years cannot use this feature with their account. You can follow these steps to create an AI video from a photo using Gemini.
Open Google Gemini website on your PCClick on Video (icon) below the text boxTo create a video from a photo, click on Add imageSelect the file you want to upload and convert into AI videoClick on SubmitGoogle says videos generated in Gemini apps are 8-seconds long and they could take 1-2 minutes to be generated. You should only upload photos you have the right to use.
As you can tell from these details, Google is not making these features available for free, but don’t be surprised if the company does a U-turn and makes it compatible with all personal accounts in the coming months.
Google is offering limited use of the feature, even if you have the AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. The company says the ability to generate a video from a photo is not available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.
Google Veo 3 AI model to generate videos with audio was recently announced for the Indian market bundled with the Gemini AI Pro plan for users. Gemini AI Pro users in India can access Veo 3 along with other features through the Gemini app on mobile, or the web version on the desktop. Gemini AI Pro in India costs Rs 1,950 per month, and competes with ChatGPT Plus from OpenAI that is available for Rs 1,900 per month in the country.
