How about fitting Airtags under your kids shoes? (Photo: AI generated)
Shoe companies are now helping parents track their kids using hidden AirTags. Yes, this is not a joke but actual news. Sketchers, the company behind its popular lineup has decided that parents need help with tracking their kids, so what better way than to fit in AirTags under their heels and let them know their whereabouts on their iPhones.
We’ve heard about luggage getting misplaced or lost, and the AirTags coming to the rescue, but shoes, really? It seems there is a market for such products, which explains why the brand is offering these shoes as a part of the Find My Sketchers lineup.
Find My Kids Through Shoes, But Why?
We usually don’t write or cover shoes but what really caught our attention was the obvious inclusion of tech, (hidden) underneath with AirTag trackers. Weren’t these devices supposed to help people get to places safer or even find their lost items like keys?
So why are people twisting the system and re-engineering its use case to stalk others, in this case parents doing it for kids? Sure, there is a legitimate case for devices to help the folks know about the current location of their kids.Whether they are going for their classes or bunking to watch movies.
But shoes becoming a tracker was definitely not in our roadmap. Sketchers is offering the AirTag-supported shoes in a variety of styles that start for around $52 (Rs 4,300 approx) for a pair. Just lug it inside the Sketcher kids shoe and the brand promises the comfort and the real purpose of the product will remain intact even if the AirTag is loitering inside it. Apple seems to be liking the idea, which explains the AirTag support that should be available to a host of iPhone users in markets like the US.
We’ve heard cases about people putting AirTags in other’s bags to stalk them, which prompted them to revise the settings and use case of the tracker. Wonder how this works out in the near future, especially with the regulators seeing kids involved in this case.
