Nothing Phone 3 was introduced back in July making it the first flagship device from the brand. The company has talked highly about the camera on its Phone and even had some nice sample photos that were on display. But these claims took an intriguing turn recently, when a photographer reportedly confessed that his photos clicked with another camera were being used to showcase the value of the Phone 3 quality.

Yes, Nothing Phone 3 sample photos were actually shot using another camera, that too, not even from a phone. This is an ugly twist for the brand which needed an immediate reaction and kind of explaining what really happened.

Nothing Phone 3 Camera Sample Issue: What’s The Matter?

The demo samples of the Phone 3 camera shots were actually sourced from a stock photo platform, which was confirmed by the person who is the source of the images. In fact, one of the photos that Nothing used to show the Phone 3 camera quality was shot in 2023, which was even before the model was in the works. The photographer used a Fujifilm camera to capture that shot.

These new developments bring back the issues with camera samples displayed by phone brands, trying to show its quality being as good as the regular cameras. But Nothing has gone one step further and used demo photos that are available on a public platform.

What Nothing Says

The brand has understandably come out in defence of these claims and points to the mix-up that brought this issue. Akin Evangelidis, Co-founder at Nothing wrote a detailed post on X, talking about the process of using camera samples for demo units. He says some of the early demo units need placeholder images around 4 months before the launch. The camera samples replace these shots once the mass production of the device starts.

Re the Phone (3) live demo units (LDU) in some stores using stock imagery – let me explain. An initial version of the LDU needs to be submitted with placeholders around 4 months before launch, to be implemented and tested as we ramp up towards mass production. Once we enter mass…— Akis Evangelidis 🦞 (@AkisEvangelidis) August 27, 2025

But it seems the company’s backend team didn’t adhere to its own process, which explains the goof-up with demo units and the photos not being replaced. “We are also investigating internally to make sure such an issue doesn’t happen again. This was an unfortunate oversight, and I want to emphasise that there was no ill intent," he adds.

It is good to have the brand vouch for the lapses and promise to make these issues not happen again. Companies making phones have to be really careful how they operate in this fast-gen social era, where even the slightest mistake is blown up and people take immediate notice. The company is now championing for its Phone 3 community to come forward and share the actual camera samples to make its claims of the quality stand true.

Nothing Phone 3 comes at Rs 79,999 for the base 12GB + 256GB variant in India, making it the most-expensive device from the brand in the country. At these prices, the camera quality is obviously going to be on the radar and goof-ups like these don’t help its case whatsoever. Let’s hope this doesn’t happen ever again for any brand.
