Gemini is not testing ads, Google has assured but the company cannot totally say that it won't be coming in the future.

Gemini is not testing ads for users but Google will find it hard to avoid it
OpenAI said this and now Google has come out publicly to confirm there are currently no plans to show ads in Gemini. The AI chatbot race is certainly heating up with many claiming Google is now ahead of the ChatGPT maker in the market so their businesses need more dough to keep the data centres running, which makes ads the ideal source to earn more money.
The new AI plans will help increase the user base but that is unlikely to generate the levels these tech companies need. Google’s ads chief coming out and denying the prospect of ads in the AI chatbot is assuring, but the use of the word ‘currently’ means it is not completely out of the picture, which is what many people are fearing going into the future.
No Ads In AI, But For How Long?
The Gemini ads rumour has been quashed away by Dan Taylor, who heads the Global ads division at Google. He said in a post on X that the news about ads in Gemini is ‘uninformed’ and ‘inaccurate’ and he pointed out that currently there are no plans to bring ads to the AI chatbot.
ChatGPT and Gemini are growing but these companies are investing billions, which means they need different sources for revenues. Ads have been the most reliable tap to open for Google and Meta for decades, and OpenAI clearly sees that as the ideal strategy.
Google using ads in Gemini won’t be shocking but it will start another debate around the use of the AI tools, their privacy and how these ads are presented on the front end. Google has already introduced ads in AI search and AI mode so having ads in Gemini will probably finish the triangle.
The rumours around ads in Gemini came from a report in AdWeek which cited sources about the specifications of these ads, and how they will be priced and placed within the AI chatbot for the businesses and the users, respectively.
Over at OpenAI, we’ve had Nick Turley also doing his part and trying to sort out the confusion around ads being tested on ChatGPT. He assures that OpenAI is not doing any live tests for ads, and if you see any clip showing that, it is not real. The company’s chief for ChatGPT says they will take a thoughtful approach and it will be designed to respect people’s trust on ChatGPT.
Google has launched the new AI Plus Gemini plan in India this week, priced at Rs 399 per month like the ChatGPT Go version. However, it is offering a special 6-month deal where you can sign up for AI Plus for just Rs 199 per month in the country.
