Chakraborty cites practices not aligned with personal values; RBI clears Mistry’s interim appointment for three months

HDFC Bank Ltd on Wednesday, March 18 said its part-time Chairman and Independent Director Atanu Chakraborty has resigned with immediate effect, citing reasons outlined in his resignation letter.
In the letter, Chakraborty said certain developments and practices within the bank over the past two years were not aligned with his personal values and ethics, forming the basis of his decision to step down. He added that there were no other material reasons for his resignation.
The bank said its Board has placed on record its appreciation for Chakraborty’s contributions during his tenure.
Separately, the Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment of Keki Mistry as interim part-time Chairman of the bank for a period of three months, effective March 19, 2026, following an application by the lender.
HDFC Bank said the appointment is in line with regulatory approval and is meant for interim oversight.
