Heavyweights like State Bank of India, Coal India, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance and Axis Bank led the losses on the index.
On the flip side, selective buying was seen in defensives and consumption plays, with Asian Paints, Apollo Hospitals, Tata Consumer Products, Adani Ports and Titan Company emerging as top gainers.
