London Heathrow Airport Shutdown: Power to the Heathrow Airport was knocked out after a fire at an electrical substation in west London just before midnight on Thursday. The airport remained closed on Friday

The “significant power outage" forced officials to shut the airport until 11:59 pm on Friday “to maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues."

The London Fire Brigade said 10 fire engines and 70 firefighters responded to a fire at the substation that was reported at 11:23 p.m. on Thursday. The fire has been contained but firefighters will remain at the scene throughout Friday, the fire brigade said.

Here are the latest updates from Heathrow:

Downing Street refrained from giving a clear answer on whether Heathrow would fully reopen by Saturday, UK’s PA news agency said in an update. The UK’s Metropolitan Police confirmed that its counter-terrorism command is leading a probe into the source of fire at the substation in Hayes. It also stressed that there is “currently no indication of foul play", according to a report by the Guardian.Alice Delahunty, the president of Grid’s transmission business, told news agency The Guardian that it has refused to rule out that an act of sabotage may be behind the substation fire which cut power to Heathrow airport. “We’re not in a position to rule anything in or out," Delahunty was quoted as saying. The UK PM Keir Starmer said he is “receiving regular updates" on the incident as he posted an update on the Heathrow outage. “I know the situation in Heathrow is causing distress and disruption, especially for those travelling or without power in their homes. I’m receiving regular updates and I’m in close contact with partners on the ground. Thanks to our emergency workers for keeping people safe," Starmer said.Location :
