The alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman in Bangladesh’s Comilla district has sparked massive outrage, with students demanding “exemplary punishment" for the accused. However, the woman now reportedly wishes to withdraw the case against the accused.

The incident took place on June 26 and came to light after a video of the naked woman being brutally assaulted and pleading with her attackers went viral on social media. Police have arrested Fazor Ali, 36, a local Bangladesh ist Party (BNP) leader and the main accused, along with four others for circulating the video of the incident.

The incident sparked massive outrage as students of Dhaka University staged protest marches in the campus condemning the rape, while residents of its Jagannath Hall dormitory, dedicated for minority community students, took out processions calling for justice.

Why Does The Victim Want To Withdraw Rape Case?

According to Bangladesh media reports, the woman said she wanted to withdraw the case against Fazr Ali and no one had pressured her to do so. She said she did not want to see Ali punished and wanted to preserve peace in the country.

“Her husband says that the damage to our honour is already done. If we proceed with the case, it won’t be restored. That’s why she will withdraw the case of her own free will," as per a report by Channel 24.
