US President Donald Trump on Thursday said he was “honoured" to meet Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, whom he hosted at the White House for a lunch meeting on Wednesday, weeks after India and Pakistan were locked in a four-day military conflict.
Trump also praised Munir for his alleged role in preventing the escalation of the conflict between India and Pakistan, and told the media that he wanted to thank Munir for going into the war.
“The reason I had him here was because I wanted to thank him for ending the India-Pakistan war. Prime Minister Modi just left a little while ago, and we are working on a trade deal with India, with Pakistan. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi and Munir are two very smart people who decided not to keep going with that war," Trump said.
“I was honoured to meet Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir today," Trump told reporters.
