India’s improving relations with the world and an increased understanding of Pakistani terrorism have made crucial Western powers and top legislators support the former’s precision strikes on nine terror hotbeds in Pakistan and PoK.
According to government sources, in case of such a major operation across borders between nuclear-armed nations, it is natural for countries to ask for de-escalation. However, Pakistan’s support to terror networks is an open secret now which has made several world powers back India’s right to self-defence.
WORLD IN SUPPORT
United Kingdom: The UK’s foreign minister said India is right to feel outraged at the “terrible" Pahalgam attack on April 22 as he called upon Pakistan to do more to tackle the terror threat within its own borders.
UK MP Rishi Sunak supported India’s strikes on terrorist infrastructure and said no nation should have to accept terrorist attacks being launched against it from another country. MP Priti Patel also backed the military action, saying India has the right to take reasonable steps to defend itself and dismantle the “vile terrorist infrastructure" that threatens it.
France: The French foreign minister expressed understanding about India’s desire to protect itself from terrorism. In an official statement, the French Foreign Office condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and expressed full solidarity with India, adding that France supports India in its fight against terrorist groups.
Israel: Israel’s Ambassador to India said the former supports India’s right of self-defence and terrorists should know “there is no place to hide from their heinous crimes against innocents".
Netherlands: MP Geert Wilders expressed support with his tweet saying “Kashmir is 100% Indian". He also used the hashtag #PakistanBehindPahalgam in his tweet.
US: Congressman Shri Thanedar said terrorism cannot be tolerated and it cannot go unpunished, adding that India has the right to defend its people. Thanedar expressed firm solidarity towards India’s efforts to dismantle the extremist networks.
Panama, non-permanent member of UNSC: Panama’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Republic of Panama “stands with India in this tragic loss and in the ongoing fight against terrorism".
PAKISTAN EXPOSED
In a video that has exposed Pakistan’s duplicity on combating terror, LeT commander Hafiz Abdul Rauf was caught on camera leading funeral prayers for terrorists killed in precision Indian strikes early on Wednesday. In the video, Rauf— a US-designated global terrorist—can be seen conducting the prayers in the presence of uniformed Pakistan Army personnel, indicating the State’s support for Jihadi groups.
The videos lend credence to Pakistan defence minister Khawaja Asif’s latest admission that the country had long supported and funded terrorist groups, describing it as “dirty work" done for foreign powers. Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has long provided tactical support to terrorist entities such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) which have attempted to shatter peace in not just Jammu and Kashmir but across the country.
In an effort to win support from the international community, India has consistently raised the issue of Pakistan’s state-sponsored terrorism on global platforms, calling out the “rogue state" for posing a threat to global security.
