Nepal is set to merger of nine parties, including the CPN-Maoist Centre, to form the ‘Nepali Communist Party’, ahead of the elections scheduled in March which comes on the back of the recent Gen-Z revolution. The CPN-Maoist Centre led by former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held the final meeting of the General Convention Organizing Committee on Tuesday. Addressing the final meeting, Narayankaji Shrestha, the Vice-Chair of the party, claimed that the Gen-Z protest had become a call for the party to come together under a single umbrella.

“Nepal Maoists leading the country would mean Chinese agenda being furthered. It will be West vs China in Nepal. Moreover, Beijing is doing major political engineering in Kathmandu," said top intelligence sources.

With the US, India, and European nations pushing for democratic stability and transparency, it will be West versus China in Nepal.

What is happening in Nepal after Gen-Z stir?

After the September uprising of the Gen-Z, then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was deposed from the post. At least 72 people were killed in two days of bloodshed, which threw Oli off the post as premier.

The Himalayan Nation, after five days of deliberation and debate, appointed Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the interim Prime Minister, who recommended dissolving the parliament and is mandated to conduct the election on March 5, 2026.

The merger includes the Maoist Centre, CPN (Unified Socialist), Nepal Samajbadi Party, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, CPN (Maoist Socialist), CPN (Samyabadi), and other left factions.

Senior leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, also the former Home and Foreign Affairs minister, stressed that restructuring and polarisation within the communist movement is essential.

As per the leaders, the guiding principle of the new party will be Marxism-Leninism, while the political program will focus on scientific socialism with Nepali characteristics. The joint meeting of all participating central committees will finalise the party declaration, interim statute, and central leadership structure. The new party has agreed to adopt a five-pointed star as its election symbol.

US Vs China in Nepal: What it means for India

Intelligence inputs also suggest Chinese envoys are actively engaging Maoist leaders with financial and political promises.

“China is quietly mediating among various Left factions in Nepal to rebuild the United Communist Front. A similar attempt brought Prachanda and Oli together in 2018. The objective is to restore a pro-China, anti-West alignment in Nepal’s political system," said sources.

“This will counterbalance the recent US influence through Millennium Challenge Corporation projects. A unified Left bloc led by Prachanda will give China stronger control over Nepal’s political decisions. China wants control on border issues, Belt & Road projects, and the handling of Tibetan refugees," they said.

“China wants consensus in everything in Nepal, including party control, as interim Nepal PM Sushila Karki is totally driven by West with her two advisors Ajay Bhadrak Khanal and Govinder Narayan Timilsina who previously worked with US NGOs," they said.

According to sources, a strong Maoist Left bloc could tilt policy decisions. “India will see major problem on border trade, defence cooperation and regional diplomacy away from New Delhi’s influence," they said.
