An Indian-origin detective with London's Metropolitan Police has been charged with sexual assault of four women, Scotland Yard said on Thursday.
Detective Sergeant (DS) Prakash Patel, attached to the North West Command Unit, is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Friday, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police.
Patel was charged on July 24 with five counts of sexual assault. One of the alleged incidents took place on an unspecified date in the summer of 2024, while the other four allegedly occurred in December 2024.
"The charges relate to four women known to DS Patel. They continue to be supported by investigating officers," the police department added.
Patel was arrested in April 2025. After an investigation, he was suspended from duty on the same day.
Following further police inquiries, the UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) officially authorised the charges, leading to his formal indictment, the Metropolitan Police said.
