Canada is often hailed as a paradise for startups, but the experiences of Indian-origin entrepreneur Maulik Pandya reveal a more complex reality. Pandya, the founder and CEO of the AI-based foodtech platform ‘Eatance’, shared an emotional account of why he and his family chose to leave the country.

In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, Pandya wrote, “We are leaving Canada. We made this decision with tears. We have to leave this beautiful home we made for our family and two daughters." He clarified that the decision was not abrupt but came after many sleepless nights and mental struggles.

Tough Choice Made For Family

Pandya explained that in recent months, he had been grappling with the intricacies of the Canadian system daily, feeling trapped between taxes, business permits, and the education system.

He stated, “Many countries offer single-window facilities for startups, but in Canada, we faced new traps every day. It felt like our innocent children became part of this system."

The ordeal, he said, took a toll on his family’s mental and physical health. “For us, it was no longer just about business but about the mental peace and future of our children," he added.

Now Gearing Up For A Fresh Start

Pandya and his family are now planning to start a new life in the UAE or India. “We are not asking for anything else. We are just closing this chapter and moving forward for the well-being of our children and our peace," he wrote.

His post garnered thousands of reactions, with some expressing sympathy and others advising him to return to India. One user commented, “This is a heartbreaking story, but sometimes an end is just a new beginning." Another remarked, “Return to India, the environment for entrepreneurs is better here now."

The Journey Of Entrepreneurs Battling The System

Pandya’s story is not unique. Many expatriate Indian entrepreneurs in recent years have become frustrated with the increasing red tape, tax burdens, and systemic complexities in developed countries and are contemplating a return home.

This trend reflects a shift from ‘brain drain’ to ‘brain gain’, indicating that the evolving startup environment in India is becoming more appealing. Entrepreneurs like Maulik may find that their journey, which once led them to Canada, now finds its true destination back in India.
