Instagram location sharing feature like Snap Map is coming to users in India and the platform has made some tweaks.

Instagram location sharing can be useful but invasive
Instagram is finally bringing its location sharing feature that works pretty much like how Snapchat users have got for many years. As the name suggests, the feature helps you stay in touch with friends and let you connect with them by their location (if they let you access it).
According to the company’s blog post, the functionality intends to make it easier for consumers to set up hangouts right from their Instagram conversations. “Spend more time together, and less time coordinating," the post says. According to Instagram, the tool can be used to organise arrival schedules and find friends in congested areas.
Instagram Map: How It Works In India
Instagram has heard previous inputs from users and its launch in India this week comes with multiple tweaks. The feature will be gradually available to all iOS and Android users in the country.
With Instagram Map users can share their location with a single person or in a group chat in DMs. Once they share their location, only the members of the group would be able to see their location, also it couldn’t be forwarded to any other chats.
The users will also see an indicator at the top of the chat but it will come without the profile photo so that you don’t assume this is the exact location of that person. The platform is also adhering to the teen accounts by letting parents know when the location sharing feature is turned on and changing the preferences in settings for the user.
Instagram has picked up features from Snapchat for years and it is surprising that something as crucial as location sharing has been missing from the Meta-owned app. It made its global debut earlier this year and is now available for users in India and more regions.
At the same time, Instagram is making a new plan to get more people to watch Reels or short videos on its platform. The new update will be available for mobile users in India, which they are called, Reels-first mobile experience.
The tests have started with a limited group of users in the country which eventually will be available for all the users with the public release in the next few months. Reels has become the core function for Instagram, not only because of the popularity of short videos but also its obvious marketability for ads and other revenue sources.
