Bangladesh's interim government head Muhammad Yunus on Friday allocated the portfolios to his 16-member council of advisors, a day after the 84-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner was sworn in after weeks of deadly anti-government protests saw the ouster of Sheikh Hasina. Yunus appointed a former top diplomat who stressed the importance of striking a "balance" in Bangladesh's relations with "big powers".

Yunus's first task is to bring back stability to Bangladesh after protests against a controversial job quota system since June morphed into a widespread demand for Hasina's resignation.

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh ist Party (BNP), the party headed by former prime minister Khaleda Zia, said the decision of Hasina fleeing to India after the protests against her was entirely her decision.
