Gemini has become the default AI assistant for many Android users and Google is bringing it now to the iPhones as well.
You can install the Gemini app on iPhone from the App Store
iPhone users finally get a chance to try out Google’s AI chatbot called Gemini now that its official app has gone live on the App Store. The update comes just a few days after reports shared details about the Gemini app spotted on the app store. Gemini is already available on millions of smartphones, and you can even make it the default assistant on these devices.
But in Apple’s world, Gemini operates like any other AI assistant out there, and needs your consent to do even the basic things.
Gemini AI On iPhone, Siri Needs A Boost Quickly
Gemini coming to iPhone users is a big sign that Google is not only looking to expand its reach within the Android ecosystem, but is happy to go cross-platform. What’s surprising is that Gemini Live, which is the voice avatar of the AI chatbot, is also available to iPhone users from day one of its release this week.
And that is where Apple will now have to buck up and bring its polished new AI powered Siri to more users quickly. Gemini Live has proven to be a reliable option for Android users because most of the apps they use (which come pre-installed) are from Google. This way you can get the Gemini assistant to handle tasks that are available through Google’s wide array of apps.
But with iOS, the choice is with the consumer, and if they don’t use Google Maps, YouTube or even Gmail, their purpose of having Gemini Live will be limited. Apple won’t let Gemini access all the apps which is hardly surprising but what Gemini Live brings to the table is an experience that iPhone users will gradually start to expect from Apple.
The early days of Siri doesn’t show its actual worth and what Apple showed at the iPhone 16 launch event has to be the final goal that needs to be achieved sooner rather than later. To be fair, Apple says it is not looking to race others in the AI push, but the race is definitely on to make space for one AI agent on millions of smartphones.
