Hours after suspected Baloch gunmen opened fire at the Jaffar Express train in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan on Tuesday, some pro-Balochistan groups have widely shared a video claiming to show the visuals of the attack and seizure of the train.

This is believed to be the first video showing the blast, it was being claimed.

However, an official confirmation on the same by either the Pakistani government or the Baloch rebels was awaited.

The viral video shows a train passing through a mountainous terrain in what appeared to be an area from Balochistan.

Moments later, black smoke was seen billowing from the front coaches of the train, after a visible blast.

Some armed men, believed to be Baloch activists were seen near the train, apparently taking the passengers of the train hostage, while the train was seen stationary on the spot.

News18.com couldn’t independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Jaffar Express, with around 500 passengers on board in nine coaches, was on its way from Quetta to Peshawar in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa when it was fired upon between Gudalaar and Piru Koneri in a tunnel.

The attack happened on Tuesday and left many passengers injured, while many were taken hostage.

Later, the authorities said 27 terrorists were killed and 150 passengers were rescued by security forces.

Efforts to rescue the remaining passengers on the train were underway.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed it seized control of the train by derailing it. The group said it killed some security personnel and took over 100 people in custody, including security personnel.

In a statement, the BLA warned that if the Pakistan military launches an operation, “all hostages will be executed".

The group is banned in Pakistan, the UK and the US.
