A series of international developments involving India and global leaders brought the focus on global governance, sharp exchanges at the United Nations, a court ruling in Paris, and political and business debates in Washington.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India and Africa cannot remain underrepresented in global decision-making and called for UN Security Council reform. At the UN, India also criticised Pakistan over nuclear rhetoric and what it called lies on Jammu and Kashmir. Separately, a Paris court jailed an Indian man for leading an online child abuse ring, while US President Donald Trump announced a diesel deal with Russia, faced criticism over it, renewed his complaint over the Nobel Peace Prize, and Elon Musk shared reports on Reliance-backed firms' donations to the BJP.

Speaking in Addis Ababa, Jaishankar said India and Africa cannot remain underrepresented in global decision-making. He called for reform of the UN Security Council so that global governance becomes more democratic and representative.

At the United Nations, India hit out at Pakistan, saying nuclear weapons must not be treated as 'routine instruments of statecraft'. India also said it will 'not bow' to nuclear blackmail.

In another sharp exchange at the UN, India said it was 'regrettable' that Pakistan continues to abuse the platform of the world organisation by peddling lies and falsehoods about the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In Paris, a court sentenced a 29-year-old Indian man to 20 years in prison for leading a masculinist group that forced young girls, many of them minors, to perform sexual acts, authorities said.

In Washington, Trump struck a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the supply of diesel to the US and global markets. The move came weeks after the US Congress authorised him to impose steep tariffs on top purchasers of oil and gas from Moscow.

US Senator Richard Blumenthal, co-author of the Russia sanctions act, criticised the diesel deal and called it an 'embarrassment'. In a separate remark, Trump said Norway had passed him over for the Nobel Peace Prize and claimed he should have won it eight times for each war he settled.

Musk, meanwhile, shared reports of Reliance-backed firms' donations to the BJP, intensifying his campaign against the corporate giant he had accused of blocking Starlink's entry into India.

Taken together, the developments ranged from Jaishankar's push for fairer global representation and India's rebuttals to Pakistan at the UN to a major court sentence in France and political and business disputes in the US.
