James Cameron drops Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer with fiery new villains

Director James Cameron has officially released the first trailer for his upcoming film Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third instalment in the Avatar franchise. The film is set for release on December 19, 2025. The sequel arrived three years after Avatar: The Way of Water.

INTRODUCING THE ASH PEOPLE

As reported by Variety, in a major reveal at the 2024 D23 Expo, Cameron showcased an exclusive teaser featuring a new tribe known as the Ash People. Covered in soot and dancing menacingly around a fire pit, this volcanic clan adds a dangerous new dimension to Pandora’s complex ecosystem. The tribe is led by Varang, portrayed by Oona Chaplin, a character who appears to possess the power to control fire.

“You’ll see a lot more of Pandora that you’ve never seen before,” Cameron said during the 2024 D23 Expo. “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes more than ever before.” He added, “We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”

NEW CAST MEMBER

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaa reprise their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri. They’re joined once again by Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, and others. New additions include David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh, expanding the franchise’s already star-studded lineup.

FIRE VS WATER: A NEW CONFLICT UNFOLDS

The trailer showcases an intense conflict, with Jake Sully’s family and the aquatic Metkayina tribe teaming up against Varang and her fiery forces. Stephen Lang’s Quaritch appears to be aligned with the Ash People this time. In one chilling moment, Varang warns, “Your goddess has no dominion here,” hinting at an all-out war across Pandora.
