Former Minnesota State Senator Justin Eichorn's wife filed for divorce after his arrest on a federal investigation. Eichorn was accused of trying to solicit sex from a minor girl. He was arrested by a detective who was posing as a 17-year-old girl online.
Court documents state that Eichorn is representing himself in the ongoing divorce case. His arrest was part of a broader underage sex trafficking sting, where 14 individuals were arrested in total.
Eichorn was arrested during the course of the investigation and was brought into federal court last week. The judge sentenced him to be held in jail until a position becomes open in a halfway house. Moreover, Eichorn will only have supervised contact with persons under 18 years old, including his own children.
Federal authorities issued new documents on Monday, requesting that Eichorn remain in custody until his trial. Eichorn was set to be released to a halfway house on Tuesday.
But prosecutors accused him of trying to conceal evidence by having a computer removed from his St. Paul apartment. FBI agents also discovered an iPhone that had recently been erased, as well as a gun and ammunition, for which Eichorn allegedly made false claims about owning.
Charges against former Minnesota State Senator
According to KSTP news, the charges arise out of a string of messages that Eichorn is accused of sending to an undercover officer impersonating a prostitute. On March 11, he initially made contact with the officer, enquiring if she was interested in sex.
When she didn't respond, he again sent a message, saying, "What's a guy got to do to get with the hottest girl online tonight?" The officer said she was 17, and Eichorn continued to ask about the type of encounter.
Court documents also indicate Eichorn requested clear photos from the officer. The officer stopped responding, but Eichorn contacted the officer again two days later and resumed talking to him.
Upon his arrival at the meeting point offered by the undercover officer, Eichorn was apprehended.
