Given her recent criticisms of BRS leadership, particularly targeting working president KT Rama Rao, this removal is seen as highly significant.

In a major development, the central committee of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS), the labour union affiliated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has removed MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha from her post as honorary president. Former Minister Koppula Eshwar has been appointed in her place.

At a key meeting held at BRS party’s headquarters Telangana Bhavan, the union passed a resolution stating that there is no longer any association between TBGKS and the “Singareni Jaagruthi" group led by Kavitha.

Along with her, two other leaders, L Venkatesh and Naresh, who were part of both TBGKS and Jaagruthi, were also removed. The union asserted that dual roles in both organisations were no longer acceptable and that individuals must choose one side.

It was also decided to launch a campaign in Singareni titled “Save Singareni, Remove Congress."

The timing of Kavitha’s removal, while she is in the US to admit her son to a university, has created a political stir. Given her recent criticisms of BRS leadership, particularly targeting working president KT Rama Rao, this removal is seen as highly significant. Rumours are now swirling that if she’s been ousted from the union, her exit from the party may be next.

Kavitha, currently in the US, has responded with a letter to the workers, expressing her thoughts on the latest developments. She called it an “honour" to have served as honorary president for ten years, describing her role as that of a sister serving every worker’s family.

She criticised the union’s decision, claiming the elections were held at the party office, which is technically against labour laws, and insisted the move was politically motivated.

“I believe all of you are aware of the recent happenings within the BRS. I shared public feedback on party president KCR’s speech during the party’s silver jubilee celebrations in a letter. I have written similar letters to my father, KCR, before. During a previous trip to the US, one of my letters was leaked, and I demanded that those responsible for the leak and conspiracy be exposed. My questioning of internal matters in the party has been viewed as rebellion, and this is why action is being taken against me," Kavitha wrote in her letter.

Kavitha has been increasingly at odds with BRS leadership and has been actively organising events under the banner of “Telangana Jaagruthi." These events have notably lacked the participation of BRS leaders, who have also openly criticised her. KTR has so far remained silent, but sources suggest that party chief KCR is displeased with her approach and conduct.

With her removal from the labour wing, party insiders believe there’s a strong possibility that Kavitha might soon be formally expelled from the BRS itself.
