L&T elevates Subramanian Sarma to deputy MD and president

Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) on Friday (March 21) announced the elevation of Subramanian Sarma to the position of deputy managing director and president, effective April 2, 2025.

Sarma, who currently serves as wholetime director and president of energy, will now take on a broader leadership role within the company. The board of directors has also approved an extension of his term until February 3, 2028, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming annual general meeting (AGM).

SN Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director, said, "Sarma has been instrumental in transforming our hydrocarbon and energy businesses, driving innovation, operational excellence, and global competitiveness. His elevation is well deserved, and I am confident that his leadership will further strengthen L&T’s growth trajectory."

A graduate of chemical engineering, Sarma completed his master’s from IIT Mumbai. A seasoned professional, he has over 40 years of experience, with 30 years being in the Middle East. During his career span, Sarma has handled the complete oil & gas value chain across various geographies.

Prior to joining L&T, Sarma served as managing director of a large EPC company. He was appointed to the board of L&T in August 2015. Under Sarma’s leadership, L&T’s energy portfolio has emerged as one of the leading EPC contractors globally, by achieving record financial results and being ranked among the top three EPC contractors in the oil & gas sector (Middle East) for four consecutive years.

Sarma said, "I am honoured to take on this new role at a time when L&T is witnessing strong growth and expansion."

Shares of Larsen & Toubro Ltd ended at ₹3,417.35, up by ₹68.15, or 2.03%, on the BSE.
