Chaos erupted in Australia’s Perth after a streetwear store was stampeded by hundreds of teenagers on Boxing Day (December 26) after its owner reportedly encouraged customers to “rob" the place.

Shocking footage went viral on social media showing hundreds of people jostling and pushing their way into the StreetX store in Perth’s Central Business District, according to the New York Post. The video was uploaded on StreetX’s official Instagram handle.

StreetX founder Daniel Bradshaw, who is popular for chaotic marketing campaigns, had invited customers to “rob" his stores. “We wanted to give our customers something fun. We made the entire store free. There were 400 items to ‘steal’," he told West Australian.

“We always do a Boxing Day sale. Last year, we did a giveaway out the back of a truck. This year we wanted something that ideally wouldn’t get us in trouble," he said, adding that there were control measures in place to protect customers.

The chaotic footage of the stampede showed an overly enthusiastic crowd trampling a young fan who stumbled on his way in to claim one of the 400 T-shirts being offered. However, Bradshaw said nobody was injured during the stampede and the police “were fine with it".

The Boxing Day mayhem wasn’t limited to Perth, with people turning out in droves across Australia to “steal" the T-shirts that were being offered by StreetX. DFO Outlet malls in Sydney and Harbour Town on the Gold Coast also drew massive crowds.

“It was gone in 30 seconds. It was crazy. Just a stampede of people," Bradshaw said on the Perth chaos. However, a woman complained that her son was “punched in the head" during the stampede, according to The Mirror.

“My son was punched in the head and had his items stolen by a young adult thug. I get what you’re trying to do but not having any control over violence is just not ok," she wrote on Instagram.
