Over 6 lakh customers across the United States were left without electricity on Sunday as a severe winter storm swept from Texas to the northeastern states, according to the power monitoring website PowerOutage.com.
The southern states of Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana were hit hardest, with each reporting over 1 lakh homes and businesses without power after heavy snow and freezing rain battered the region.

The US Weather Service warned that the storm’s impact would continue through Monday, with icy conditions and low temperatures expected to cause “dangerous travel and infrastructure challenges" for several days.
Heavy snowfall is forecast from the Ohio Valley to the Northeast, while “catastrophic ice accumulation" threatens parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Air travel has also been severely affected, with more than 10,000 flights cancelled and over 8,000 delayed, according to FlightAware.com.
US President Donald Trump approved emergency declarations for at least a dozen states by Saturday.
US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) pre-positioned essential supplies, staff and search-and-rescue teams across affected areas.
