Shocking allegations of “medical terrorism" have emerged from the highest levels of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and the family of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, CNN-News18 has learnt. Speaking to the media on Thursday, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Khan’s sister, Aleema Khanum, accused the Adiala Jail administration of a deliberate conspiracy to permanently blind the PTI founder.
Allegations of Medical Terrorism
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi launched a scathing attack on Jail Superintendent Ghafoor Anjum, alleging that the official acted as a tool for the “fake government of Punjab" to systematically deteriorate Khan’s health. Afridi claimed that the neglect was so severe that Khan’s eyesight was pushed to the brink of total loss. “We are being told his vision has plummeted to a mere 10 to 15 per cent," the CM stated, adding that the lack of transparency from the federal government regarding the truth of Khan’s condition is a “grave humanitarian crisis".
A Retinal Crisis and Institutional Neglect
The controversy stems from a diagnosed Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in Khan’s right eye, a condition that requires immediate specialist intervention. According to reports submitted to the Supreme Court, Khan began complaining of blurred vision as early as November 2025, yet was reportedly only given basic eye drops for three months.
Aleema, speaking outside the Supreme Court, was uncompromising in her stance against Superintendent Ghafoor Anjum. She declared that the jailer “will not be forgiven for this crime" and vowed that he would face legal hearings for his role in the alleged medical sabotage. She expressed outrage that Khan was “secretly" moved to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in January without his family’s knowledge, a facility they claim lacked the necessary retinal specialists to save his sight.
Supreme Court Intervention
Following the alarming disclosures, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi has taken decisive action. On February 12, the court ordered that specialised medical treatment for Imran Khan must be arranged by February 16.
Aleema confirmed that the treatment would now take place at Al-Shifa Hospital under the strict supervision of Khan’s personal doctors—a major victory for the PTI legal team, who had argued that state-appointed doctors were part of the “intentional delay".
