Melania Trump is used to turning heads — but this time, she had to share the spotlight with a robot. At a White House event focused on education and technology, the US first lady made a striking entrance alongside a humanoid machine that quickly became the centre of attention.

The moment came during the final day of the “Fostering the Future Together” summit, where global leaders gathered to discuss how innovation and artificial intelligence can help empower children.

Melania Trump and the humanoid walked side by side along a red carpet into the East Room, creating a rare visual of diplomacy meeting futuristic technology.

While the first lady paused near the entrance, the robot moved forward, positioned itself at the centre of the room and began addressing the audience.

“Thank you, first lady Melania Trump, for inviting me to the White House. It is an honor to be at Fostering the Future Together’s global coalition inaugural meeting,” the robot said.

“I’m Figure 03, a humanoid built for the United States of America,” it added, drawing attention from attendees and cameras alike.

The robot greeted the audience in English before switching to multiple languages, underlining the global theme of the summit.

“I am grateful to be part of this historic movement to empower children with technology and education,” it said, before concluding with a simple “Welcome.”

The humanoid, known as Figure 03, was developed by California-based startup Figure AI as part of a new generation of robots designed to assist with everyday tasks such as cleaning and household work.

Its appearance at the White House marked a symbolic moment for the growing role of artificial intelligence in public life. Company CEO Brett Adcock later called it “history,” saying the robot was the first of its kind to appear at the White House.

Figure AI is among several companies racing to develop human-like robots, competing with firms such as Boston Dynamics and Elon Musk’s Tesla.
