Union Minister and NDA ally Chirag Paswan targeted the Nitish Kumar-led BJP-JDU government on Thursday over the killing of a criminal in a Patna hospital who was out on parole by five men, saying that Bihar’s law and order situation has become a cause for concern.
In a post on X, Paswan said, “Murders are happening every day. The morale of criminals is sky-high. The strategy of the police and administration is beyond comprehension. The attack inside Paras hospital in Patna’s residential neighbourhood proves that criminals are openly challenging the law and administration."
He said that the criminal incidents right before the Bihar Assembly polls are worrying. “Hopefully, the administration will soon take firm steps to bring the law and order system back on track," the Union Minister added.
Chirag Paswan has once again criticised the Bihar government over the state’s crime situation, marking his second such attack in a week. Earlier, on June 12, he questioned the state’s law and order, asking, “How many more murders will Biharis face now?" and expressing confusion over the Bihar Police’s role. “It is beyond understanding what the responsibility of the Bihar Police is."
Five armed men today entered a Bihar hospital, casually walked into a patient’s room, shot him dead and escaped. The deceased, Chandan Mishra, was a hardened criminal with dozens of murder cases against him. He was out on parole on medical grounds.
The attackers were identified as those working as builders, associated with a real estate firm, in the area. The attackers had allegedly been involved in crime-related activities earlier. There were no reports of any injuries to other people at the hospital.
Commenting on the incident, Patna SSP Kartikeya K Sharma said, “A criminal, named Chandan Mishra, a resident of Buxar district, against whom dozens of cases of murder are registered, was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail. Chandan was on parole and admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. The rival gang shot him."
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has assured that the criminals would be caught. “Such an incident is unfortunate. It will be thoroughly investigated, and the criminal will not be spared. The Chief Minister of Bihar has said the criminal will be caught and strictly punished."
