At least 72 people were killed and nearly 500, including 133 Indians, are missing after a torrential flash flood originating in Tibet swept through central Nepal on Wednesday, causing widespread devastation.
The flood hit towns and villages across several districts, washing away bridges and damaging at least a dozen hydropower projects, officials said. In Rasuwa district, which borders Tibet, nearly 400 people were reported missing.
Officials said those missing in Rasuwa include at least 105 Indians and 37 NRIs. The flash flood tore through villages in the district and damaged critical infrastructure as the scale of the destruction emerged.
Overall, the flash flood left at least 72 dead, hundreds missing and major infrastructure damaged across central Nepal, with many of the missing reported from Rasuwa district near the Tibet border.
