About 100 Nepalese nationals are missing in Tibet after flash floods near the Nepal-Tibet border. More than 1,200 people have died, while 1,500 Nepalese await evacuation from Kerung.

About 100 Nepalese nationals are missing after the flash floods that began near the Nepal-Tibet border, Nepal Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lok Bahadur Chhetri said on Wednesday. A week after the disaster, more than 1,200 people have been killed and over 4,875 remain missing, with several towns and villages across the country badly hit.
Chhetri said at least 19 bodies recovered in India had been swept away by the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal's Rasuwa district. He said the bodies travelled from the Bhotekoshi through the Trishuli and Narayani rivers into India and were found near the Indian border adjoining Nepal's Rupandehi and Nawalparasi West districts.
He told journalists that the bodies are being handed over to the Nepalese authorities. Chhetri also said around 100 Nepalese nationals went missing from Tibet during the flash floods.
According to the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, around 3,000 Nepalese nationals who had entered Tibet for pilgrimage and business were stranded there. More than 2,500 of them have safely returned to Nepal through the Hilsa and Tatopani border points, while some also returned by air. He added that around 1,500 Nepalese nationals are still stranded at the Kerung border point in Tibet, and officials from the two countries are consulting on ways to evacuate them safely to Nepal.
The flash floods were triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26 and went on to devastate towns and villages in northern and central Nepal, leaving widespread damage, more than 1,200 dead and thousands still missing.
