Nepal Protest News LIVE: KP Sharma Oli resigned as Prime Minister on Tuesday following violent protests triggered by a ban on major social media platforms and anger over corruption. At least 19 people were killed and hundreds were injured in the deadly clash between the forces and the demonstrators, mostly youths leading what came to be called the “Gen Z” movement.

Further, the Tribhuvan Airport in Kathmandu resumed operations on Wednesday.

Despite the government rolling back the ban, protests intensified on Tuesday, with angry protestors attacking and injuring Nepalese leaders.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Army on Wednesday said it had arrested 26 people accused of looting and vandalism during the ongoing youth-led protests, as part of a special security operation launched to curb the ongoing unrest. The crackdown followed the Nepal Army’s takeover of national security responsibilities from 10 pm on Tuesday.

The Nepali Army appealed to citizens to stay alert and cooperate with security forces to help preserve order. Amid a surge in misinformation on social media, authorities also cautioned citizens against spreading unverified or exaggerated claims and stressed the importance of relying on credible sources.

Amid the ongoing unrest, the Nepali Army has recovered 31 firearms and associated ammunition looted by unruly groups during Tuesday’s demonstrations, Nepal-based news outlet Khabarhub reported, citing an official update. The Army said that 23 cops and three civilians injured in attacks during protests received treatment at military hospitals.

The Nepali Army on Wednesday announced the imposition of prohibitory orders and continuation of the nationwide curfew amid the ongoing unrest driven by the Gen Z-led protests in various parts of the country.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Directorate of Public Relations and Information, the Army stated that the prohibitory orders will remain in effect until 5:00 pm today.

Following that, a nationwide curfew will come into force from 6:00 am on Thursday, September 11.
