The White House said on Wednesday it has moved beyond the previously negotiated US-Ukraine minerals and natural resources deal and is focused on peace between Ukraine and Russia. The United States stated that the country is now working towards a lasting ceasefire and said, “We have never been closer to peace than we are today."
“We are now focused on a long-term peace agreement," said White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. “We’ve moved beyond just the economic minerals deal framework."
Addressing the media, the White House spokeswoman said, “In that meeting between President Zelenskyy and President Trump (in the Oval Office), the Ukrainian President at the time wasn’t talking about a greater peace deal. We are now at that place where we are talking about that."

“So we’ve moved beyond just the economic minerals deal framework, and we’re looking at a lasting ceasefire. Right now, we’re at a partial ceasefire. But again, the President is sending his highly skilled, intelligent and experienced team to Saudi Arabia later this week to continue fighting for peace in this conflict. And I would just reiterate one more time: we have never been closer to peace than we are today," she added.
Trump Speaks To Putin On Ukraine War
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday spoke to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and the two leaders agreed for an “immediate ceasefire" on all energy and infrastructure in Ukraine.
After the call, Trump said that they also discussed “many elements" of a contract for peace and the US and Russia will be working on a complete ceasefire soon.
The two leaders during their 90-minutes telephonic conversation held discussions over a range of issues — the primary one being the Ukraine war and a ceasefire.
