Amid strong opposition to the Education Policy by the Tamil Nadu government, state BJP chief K Annamalai on Monday said that the NEP does not impose Hindi on students and announced the launch of an “aggressive" signature campaign starting March 1 for the implementation of the policy.
Launching a scathing attack on the MK Stalin government, Annamalai said that DMK was creating “two classes of students" through its opposition to NEP 2020 which mandates the students to learn three languages – English, Hindi, and the regional language.
In an exclusive interview with CNN-News18, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief said, “We will launch an aggressive signature campaign from March 1. The Stalin government is making two classes of students. No one is imposing Hindi, but there should be an option. We are proud of the Tamil language but that does not mean we don’t respect other languages".
Citing the example of Uttar Pradesh, Annamalai said that the state provides Tamil as an optional language to learn at the secondary level.
“In Uttar Pradesh, Tamil is an option at the secondary level. In Chandigarh, Tamil is an option, in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil can be taken as a language at secondary level. I am saddened when Chidambaram does not know the basic things," he said.
He further took on the DMK leaders opposing the NEP, stating that several leaders do not know the NEP.
