Nothing Phone 1 launched in 2022 was promised 3 OS upgrades.
Nothing Phone 3 flagship phone is launching in the next few months but the company has some bad news for the original Phone 1 users this week. Nothing launched the Phone 1 in 2022 when it had promised three Android OS upgrades for the device along with 4 security updates.
We’re now into year three and the Phone 1 promise of 3 Android upgrades means the Android 16 update will not be heading to the first Nothing smartphone this year.
Time To Move On?
Nothing has even confirmed the news in a report, which means that the new Android 16 update will not be available if you still use the Phone 1 model. Having said that, you will get the latest security updates from the company till 2026 which keeps you safe from future issues.
Nothing brought the Android 15 update for Phone 1 in January this year, even before Samsung offered its Android 15-based One UI 7 update for its premium devices.
Nothing has already said that Phone 1 will get three upgrades, which means Android 13, 14 and 15 versions. So, the news about Phone 1 losing OS upgrades is not surprising but three years can be a long time, so some of you might feel this is like a news out of the blue.
But the bigger question is, what should the Phone 1 users do, should they upgrade or keep using it? The fact that Phone 1 users will get Android security patches till 2026, they can continue using the device till next year and then maybe look to upgrade.
And guess what, Nothing Phone 3 is launching in July, which has been confirmed by the company, and this will be a proper flagship device with a price tag close to iPhone 16 and the Pixel 9 series.
Nothing CEO Carl Pei mentioned that the Phone 3 will be based on premium materials, major performance upgrades, and software that really levels things up. Going by these hints, we could see the Nothing Phone 3 powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite or the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 series chipset.
You can also look at the Phone 3a series that is available at a much lower price range in the market.
