West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday claimed that Namita Sardar, wife of TMC MLA Bivas Sardar and sitting councillor of Baruipur Municipality’s Ward No. 7, possesses two voter identity cards registered in separate constituencies.
In a post on X, the BJP leader accused the TMC councillor of voting in Panchayat area and also as a Municipal Councillor, which is a “blatant violation of election laws."

He shared details of the alleged duplication, saying that Namita Sardar is listed as a voter in Baruipur Paschim constituency (Booth 145, Serial 538, EPIC: TYK0475913) and also in Kultali constituency (Booth 120, Serial 262, EPIC: DYQ2180727), where her father’s name is recorded as Sachindranath Naskar.
He further accused the ruling TMC of manipulating electoral rolls, saying, “This is how TMC rigs the system. One person, two votes, zero shame."
Urging the Election Commission of India (ECI) to intervene, Adhikari demanded the cancellation of the duplicate voter ID, disqualification of Namita Sardar, and the filing of an FIR. “While they lecture us on democracy, their leaders treat Voter lists like personal property. ECI must act now. Cancel duplicate IDs, disqualify her, file FIR. West Bengal deserves clean elections, not TMC’s voter fraud factory," he asserted.
Adhikari’s allegations came a day after the Election Commission announced the second phase of voter list revision in 12 states and union territories, including West Bengal.
After the announcement, the TMC opposed the exercise and said it would protest any attempt to “delete the names of eligible voters at the behest of the BJP". The BJP, meanwhile, welcomed the announcement and maintained that “no illegal voter will be spared".
Reacting sharply to the EC move, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said the party will “democratically protest" any attempt to remove genuine voters from the list.
“If any attempts are being made to delete the names of any eligible voter, there will be protests. We have no problem with electoral roll revision, but in the name of it, if someone tries to delete the name of any eligible voter at the behest of the BJP, we will protest democratically," Ghosh said.
Welcoming the SIR, the BJP said the exercise was successfully implemented in Bihar and it is necessary for a state like West Bengal.
Launching a scathing attack on the TMC, the BJP made some serious allegations linked to fake voting as well as Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators. It has alleged that the Mamata Banerjee-led party is “distorting this process for its political interests" and “excluding genuine Indian citizens especially Hindu refugees and ordinary voters, to maintain its so-called fake vote bank".
