OnePlus Open was introduced in the market a few years ago and most people have been eager to hear about the Open 2 launch its possible features.

OnePlus is taking a pause on its foldable ambitions in 2025, which basically means we won’t be seeing a OnePlus Open 2 model in any of its global markets this year. Yes, Oppo will be unveiling the Find N5 this week in China, and most people were hoping that it will become the Open 2 for markets like India but the new update paints a different story from the brand.

OnePlus feels that it has to focus on making products that set a new benchmark, and for some reason it says foldables will not be part of that strategy. “We’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year. While this may come as a surprise, we believe this is the right approach for us at this time."

OnePlus Open – Chapter Closed?

The company’s post on this decision clearly talks about Oppo’s lead in the foldable segment which seems limited to China. For all you know, Oppo might take the lead here and bring the Find N5 to more countries this year which also has a nice ring to it.

As OPPO takes the lead in the foldable segment with the Find N5, we’re committed to developing products that will redefine multiple categories and bring you experiences that are as innovative and exciting as ever, all while aligning closely with our Never Settle mantra

Brands have shown their excitement around foldable by launching in countries like India but the sale numbers are rarely going to get brands jumping out of their seats. Vivo also launched its X-series fold in the country last year, and the chances of bringing the X4 model remain slim in 2025.

Having said that, OnePlus assures that not launching the Open 2 this year does not mean it is closing the foldable chapter forever. It is only taking a pause and claims it will recalibrate with better tuned products in the future.

We’re not sure what the brand is trying to say with this post, and a sudden decision to not launch the successor to Open will hardly please people who are putting their big money into these products.

What Happens To OnePlus Open

With this news coming in this month, people who bought the Open foldable will be surely worried and rightly so. But the company assures that nothing changes for them. They will get regular software updates, security patches and the after-sale services that your big purchase warrants.
