UPI outage means your payments get stuck and money does not go through.
UPI payments have become very popular in India over the last few years, so much that people can easily move around without having paper money in their wallets. UPI payments work across all devices and are easily doable with the use of secure QR codes.
But this popularity also means that whenever you see the UPI down or facing outage, people often are stuck in an awkward position where their payments either fail or get stuck in the middle.
UPI down became a problem earlier this week which meant people were not able to buy groceries or even the smallest items from stores or online. If you ever get stuck in these situations, we are here to make you understand what happens when UPI payment fails and how you can get your money back easily.
UPI Payment Not Working, Just Follow These Steps
Check your account balance: The first thing you should do when a payment fails or gets stuck is to check your bank account for the balance left. If you notice the deducted amount is included in the full balance this means the money has not left your account and is safe with you.
Money gone but don’t worry: In case your UPI payment is cleared by your bank but does not reach the store seller, then the money is stuck in the process and should be updated soon. However, if that amount is not credited, you would be advised to wait for the payment to be automatically sent back to your account which could take 24 hours or even up to 3 days.
Keep the UPI payment ID handy: Have you wondered why every UPI payment has a unique transaction ID, that’s to help you in situations where the money does not reach the destination. You can quote this ID to your bank and check the status of the payment or amount reversal to your account.
Contact your bank customer support: The same payment ID for your failed UPI transaction can be shared with the customer support who will guide you with the next steps and how to keep a track of your money.
Don’t forget cash: UPI payments are fast and convenient but they need the internet to work. So, if you face these UPI outages in awkward situations, just avoid them and keep cash (or at least your wallet) handy to pay them.
