A Pakistani Army captain was among seven soldiers killed in a highly coordinated attack by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, sources told News18.

According to an official source, the Pakistani Army officer was identified as Captain Noman. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attack came as a result of a deadly confrontation with security forces in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of the country.

The official source confirmed that TTP militants specifically targeted soldiers in the Sultan Kalay locality of Kurram district. They hit the security forces with bombing and intense firing, in what is most likely an operation executed by the group’s deadly Kurram district commander, Ahmad Kazim.

Kazim, who is known as “TTP Field Marshal", has a bounty of 10 crore PNR on his head for killing at least 100 security personnel.

The attack comes days after eight TTP militants were killed and five others injured during an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last week, which the police said was carried out in the Wanda Sheikh Allah area of Lakki Marwat district.

Amid an ongoing conflict with the Afghan Taliban and internal tensions in the PoK region, Pakistan has lately witnessed a rise in terrorist activities mainly in provinces bordering Afghanistan.

As many as 298 people died due to terrorism so far this year in the country’s restive region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as per a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) report published last week.

The report said till October 22, 117 police personnel and 181 civilians were killed in various terrorist incidents across the province, bringing the total number of lives lost to 298, while 486 others sustained injuries.

Data shows that across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2,366 intelligence-based operations were conducted in which 1,124 militants were arrested and 368 terrorists were gunned down. The report stated that 6,181 suspects were charged in different terrorism-related cases during the year.
