Pakistan’s unprovoked firing at the borders is aimed at covering up infiltration attempts by terrorists operating from its territory, sources told CNN-News18 on Friday.
Security agencies suspect an infiltration attempt was made on May 8-9 night, and some terrorists may have crossed over.
These attempts originated from north Kashmir, specifically areas like Kupwara and Baramulla, situated close to the Line of Control (LoC).
The mountainous and densely forested terrain in these areas facilitates infiltration, said sources.
Poonch and Rajouri, located in the Jammu region, have also witnessed frequent ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts due to their proximity to the LoC.
These areas have a history of militant activity, with networks allegedly utilising old infiltration routes.
Following the Balakot strike in 2019, India has strengthened its counter-infiltration measures by deploying advanced technologies such as thermal imaging, drones, and laser barriers.
