Pakistan has begun urgently reinforcing its defences along the Line of Control (LoC), driven by mounting anxiety within its military establishment over the possibility of another swift, technology-driven Indian operation, intelligence sources have told CNN-News18.

According to sources, the Pakistani Army is rapidly deploying drone detection and jamming systems in forward areas along the LoC. Intelligence inputs indicate that at least 35 specialised anti-drone units have been deployed close to the LoC under eight Pakistani Army brigades. These deployments have been specifically observed opposite Rawalakot, Kotli and Bhimber — locations that Indian security planners consider strategically sensitive.

Intelligence officials say the choice of these sectors reflects Pakistan’s growing concern over India’s expanding drone and loitering munition capabilities, showcased during Operation Sindoor. Sources describe the Pakistani Army as “deeply unsettled" by the Indian Army’s ability to conduct surveillance, targeting and precision strikes using unmanned systems with minimal warning time.

Anti-drone warfare has now emerged as a key operational priority for Pakistan’s military leadership, which fears that any future Indian action could be fast, localised and heavily reliant on advanced technology rather than large-scale troop movements. Intelligence assessments suggest Islamabad is particularly worried about its limited ability to counter swarming drones and loitering munitions in rugged LoC terrain.

This defensive push is taking place even as Pakistan struggles to repair infrastructure damaged during Operation Sindoor. Intelligence sources say that instead of slowing military spending, Pakistan has simultaneously fast-tracked weapons procurement to plug critical capability gaps. Over the past two to three months, Islamabad has held multiple rounds of talks with China and Turkey for emergency arms purchases as well as joint production arrangements.

According to intelligence inputs, Pakistan is inducting new command-and-control vehicles to improve battlefield coordination and has finalised a deal to acquire 300 Fatah rockets, boosting its long-range strike capability. In parallel, the Pakistani Army is overhauling its armoured fleet and replacing ageing tanks that are increasingly vulnerable in a battlefield dominated by drones and precision munitions.
