Top Pakistani politician- Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan- claimed that he shared a close personal and family relationship with Hafiz Saeed—the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and a UN-designated terrorist. In a video that has surfaced on social media, Muhammad Ahmad Khan praised the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), seen as a political front for Hafiz Saeed’s Lashkar-e-Taiba, calling it his “second party."
“My relationship with Saifulla Kasuri and Professor Talha isn’t based on any formal alliance," Muhammad Ahmad Khan is heard saying in the clip, adding, “I have a relationship with Hafiz Saeed. He had a very close bond with my late father. He shared a brother-like relationship with Malik Rasheed. We consider the Markazi Muslim League as our second party. We believe these people are serving Pakistan."
Responding to the video, Mariam Solaimankhil, a member of Afghanistan’s Parliament in exile, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Of course, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly is on stage with Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. In Pakistan, terror is policy, not an accident. Hafiz Saeed’s son gets a mic. Peaceful voices get prison. And the UN? Quiet as ever—watching genocide through binoculars."
Hafiz Saeed has been under UN sanctions since 2008 and carries a $10 million bounty from the United States. Although Pakistan claims he is serving a 78-year sentence for terror financing, India has accused Islamabad of shielding Hafiz Saeed and other terrorists.
After India carried out airstrikes targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan last month, senior Pakistani military officers were seen attending the funerals of terrorists including Lashkar commander Abdul Rauf.
Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s demand for the extradition of Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. He said, “They are not only on India’s most-wanted list but are also UN-designated terrorists. If Pakistan is serious about dialogue, it should first hand them over."
