The session opened on Monday with heated protests from opposition members, leading to multiple adjournments in the Lok Sabha and the opposition staging a walkout in the Rajya Sabha.

Opposition’s protests on SIR: The second day of the Winter Session is expected to witness protests by the Opposition over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls at the Makar gate of the Parliament, continuing Monday’s disruptions.

Adjournment Motions on electoral processes: MPs Gaurav Gogoi and Vijay Kumar have raised concerns about the vulnerabilities posed by outdated, non-digital electoral rolls, which they highlight as a “grave national concern,” and call for a modernised, centrally monitored system. Kanniyakumari MP Vijay Kumar has also submitted an adjournment motion, terming the Election Commission’s SIR exercise “rushed” and a threat to electoral stability.
