Trump reasoned his action of ordering a 90-day pause on new tariffs for countries that chose negotiations over retaliation and expressed his happiness over imposing tariffs of 125% on China.

Hours after Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on his reciprocal tariff plans for most countries, the US President lauded his move and stated that the move came as some people were “jumping a little bit out of line". He further reasoned his action of ordering a 90-day pause on new tariffs for countries that chose negotiations over retaliation and expressed his happiness over imposing tariffs of 125% on China.
Speaking to the reporters, Trump said, “Well, I thought that people were jumping a little bit out of line. No other President would have done what I did. Somebody had to do it…They had to stop because it was not sustainable."
Trump said that China has to face the brunt of sweeping 125 percent tariffs because of their retaliation to US tariffs. “I’m honoured to have done it. Somebody had to do what we did. I did a 90-day pause for the people who didn’t retaliate because I told them if they retaliate, we’re going to double it. And that’s what I did with China because they did retaliate," he stated.
“So we’ll see how it all works out. I think it’s going to work out amazing. I think that our country is going to be at the end of a year or shorter, but I think we’re going to have something that nobody would have dreamt possible. I am very happy that I have done it," the US President said.
Donald Trump Slaps China With 125% Levies
Trump on Wednesday imposed a sweeping 125 percent tariff on all goods imported from China, effective immediately, in retaliation for Beijing’s announcement of 84 percent tariffs on all American goods.
Citing a lack of respect, Trump set China apart from other countries.
He said in a social media post that he is pausing his so-called “reciprocal tariffs" on many other trading partners because they had responded by reaching out for talks rather than retaliating.
