RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has taken a potshot at Nitish Kumar, stating that the Centre’s Bills on removal of CMs after 30 days of jail have been brought to ask the Bihar Chief Minister to “stay in limits" and keep him “in check".
He also claimed that the new Bills in the Parliament were “torture tactics" by the government to “blackmail" the sitting Chief Ministers.
His remarks came in reference to the three Bills introduced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday for the removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and Ministers under arrest for 30 straight days on serious charges.
Tejashwi Yadav targeted Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu while slamming the Centre’s Bills, and said that they were brought in to “keep them in check".
“They are bringing this for Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu. They have only one job – to blackmail. If PMLA is slapped in ED cases, there can be no quick bail. These are torture tactics. Instead of building the country, they are distorting it," he said.
He described the Bills as a part of a “larger conspiracy" to put pressure on Nitish to accommodate BJP leaders in the upcoming Assembly elections.
“This bill has been brought because it is part of a larger conspiracy to pressure Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and ask him to stay in limits and accommodate BJP leaders in the tickets given to JDU leaders… This bill has been brought to keep Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in check… They can also file a new case (on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar)," he told ANI.
The three Bills are the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill 2025; the Constitution (One Hundred And Thirtieth Amendment) Bill 2025; and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill 2025.
The Bills proposed that if the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers or Union Ministers are arrested and detained in custody for 30 consecutive days for offences that have a jail term of at least five years, they will be removed from their positions on the 31st day.
