Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of cross-border terrorism during his engagements in China and sought Beijing’s support in addressing the challenge. He said the Chinese side extended their support to India while addressing reporters.
Briefing reporters in China, Misri said the Prime Minister underlined that cross-border terrorism was a priority concern for India and emphasised its impact on both India and China. “The issue was discussed. It was raised by the Prime Minister. He outlined his understanding very specifically. He asked for China’s support. The Chinese side has extended support," the Foreign Secretary said while holding a press conference in Tianjin.
Misri added that Prime Minister Modi highlighted the need for both India and China to extend mutual understanding and cooperation in combating terrorism. “Cross-border terrorism was mentioned by the Prime Minister as a priority. He did underline the fact that it impacts both India and China. It is important we both extend understanding and support as both combat cross-border terrorism. We have received understanding and support of China in dealing with cross-border terrorism in the context of the SCO Summit," Misri said.
