Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived at Alvorada Palace on Tuesday (local time) to hold official talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, received a warm welcome from a group of artists who performed the ‘Ram Bhajan.’

PM Modi and the Brazilian President held a brief meeting at the presidential palace, discussing ways to deepen trade ties and diversify trade.

Taking to X, Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, shared the moments of cultural performance from Alvorada Palace. “Upon arrival at the Alvorada Palace in Brasilia ahead of official talks, PM @narendramodi was welcomed with a special performance of ‘Ram Bhajan’," he wrote.

Notably, PM Modi was also conferred with Brazil’s highest civilian award, the Grand Collar of the Order of the Southern Cross.

The honour was presented by Brazilian President Lula, in recognition of PM Modi’s notable contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing India-Brazil cooperation across key global platforms.

This marks the 26th international award conferred on PM Modi by a foreign government since he took office in May 2014.

After the meeting between both leaders, PM Modi said, “Held fruitful talks with President Lula, who has always been passionate about India-Brazil friendship. Our talks included ways to deepen trade ties and also diversify bilateral trade. We both agree that there is immense scope for such linkages to thrive in the coming times."

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that PM Modi thanked President Lula for his solidarity and support in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

PM Modi arrived in Brazil on July 5, as part of his five-nation tour, to primarily attend the BRICS Summit in Rio.

PM Modi began his multi-nation tour with a visit to Ghana on July 2, followed by a stop in Trinidad and Tobago from July 3 to 4, at the invitation of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

He then travelled to Argentina for bilateral discussions with President Javier Milei from July 4 to 5. From July 5 to 8, he was in Brazil for the BRICS Summit and official meetings with President Lula.

The tour concludes with a visit to Namibia on July 9, at the invitation of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
