PM Modi In Mauritius: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Mauritius today for a two-day state visit. He was greeted with a ceremonial welcome by Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. The visit will see the two nations sign agreements focused on capacity building, trade and combating cross-border financial crimes. Prior to his departure, PM Modi stated his belief that the visit would mark a “new and bright" chapter in Indo-Mauritian relations.
PM Modi’s Gifts For Mauritius’ President
During his visit, PM Modi presented Mauritian President Dharam Gokhool with a gift of Gangajal from the Maha Kumbh, along with other presents including Makhana from Bihar, a Banarsi silk saree, and a Ganesh idol.
PM Modi Pays Tribute To Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Anerood Jugnauth
PM Modi paid homage to Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the founding father and first Prime Minister of Mauritius, and Sir Anerood Jugnauth, former President and Prime Minister. His first official stop was the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden in Port Louis, where he laid a wreath at the memorial of Ramgoolam.
PM Modi, alongside his Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam, also paid tribute to Sir Anerood Jugnauth.
PM Modi As Chief Guest For Mauritius Day
As the Chief Guest at the Mauritius Day celebrations, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the robust diplomatic and cultural ties between India and Mauritius, according to an official press release from the Ministry of External Affairs. During a special luncheon hosted by President Gokhool, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the hospitality and reaffirmed India’s dedication to the enduring partnership between the two countries.
“It is a privilege to attend the Day celebrations of Mauritius as the Chief Guest once again," PM Modi remarked.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble President for this warm hospitality and honor. This is not just an occasion for a meal but a symbol of the vibrant and close ties between India and Mauritius."
Underscoring the deep-rooted connections between the two countries, PM Modi noted, “The Mauritian platter is not only rich in flavors but also reflects the country’s diverse social fabric. It embodies the shared heritage of India and Mauritius. The warmth of Mauritian hospitality carries the sweetness of our friendship."
PM Modi concluded by extending his best wishes to President Gokhool and his wife, stating, “On this occasion, I extend my best wishes for the excellent health and well-being of His Excellency President Dharambeer Gokhool and Mrs Brinda Gokhool; for the continued progress, prosperity, and happiness of the people of Mauritius; and reaffirm India’s commitment to our enduring relationship."
